First time sledding!

Washington had its first "snowstorm" of the winter yesterday.  We got a whopping 2-3 inches of snow.  Of course the city was paralyzed by the snow, schools shut down, federal government employees could take unscheduled leave, everyone ran to the grocery store to buy milk and bread, and filled up their cars with gas (I never understand why people are obsessed with filling their cars with gas - if a snowstorm hits, you're not really driving anywhere, so why is it neecessary to fill up with gas??).

Anyway, despite the ridiculous snow hysteria, we thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to introduce Sam to his first real playtime in the snow.  Although we took Sam outside during Snowmaggedon 2010...

... he wasn't yet walking and didn't really "play" in the snow.  But yesterday, he was super excited for the "snowstorm".  He donned his new boots for the first time and is learning to accept that he must wear a hat in order to play outside during the winter  - this has been a battle for quite some time now.

Brad has Sam in early stages of training learning to shovel the driveway!
He ventured into the snow and loved jumping in it and watching the dog race around in the snow, but then he found his new love... he got to try out his new sled!!!!  My parents gave him a fabulous rainbow colored toboggan for Hanukkah and he is head over heels in love with it.  However, he insisted that we pull him along continually - if we dared to stop pulling...WHOA, he can be demanding sometimes!

VERY happy boy in the sled!

We visited our neighbors' yard with their many, many Christmas lights and decorations.

After a wonderful 45 minutes in the 20 degree cold weather, we decided it was time to go inside for dinner and warm up.  Sam was NOT a happy little boy and vehemently fought us to stay outside and continue sledding (despite the fact that I think he was freezing!)

More, Daddy, More!!!  He was not happy that sled time was over.
Although we hope to not repeat Snowmaggeden again this winter, we are excited for future sledding adventures!  If it's going to be this cold, it should definitely snow!  Happy winter everyone!
