As I've mentioned before, Sam is head over heels in love with our dog. He loves to throw food from his highchair to her on the ground. He also loves to go into the pantry, open up her dog food container, and feed her dog food - piece by piece. He can be screaming and crying, but the moment the dog comes in the room - he immediately starts to smile, says hiiiiiii, and tries to give her a big kiss. Dog was even his first word! he loves to hold her leash and attempts to walk her outside - and she patiently lets him tug her around.
The dog is less than thrilled with Sam joining our household and although she tries hard to accept him, it's pretty obvious that she isn't happy about it. Like a true lab, she tolerates the tail tugs, hair pulling, rough hugs, etc. Every now and then she lets out a low grrrrrrr to let him know when he's hurting her, usually when he's pulling her whiskers or trying to stand on her. I always make sure that she can get up and leave if he's bothering her. We are CONSTANTLY working on teaching him to be gentle with the dog and to nicely pet her. I feel like I say "gentle" 100x/day.
The other day Sam & I were eating lunch and the dog was literally trying to get Sam's food which is uncharacteristic for her. He was eating turkey meat sauce (leftover from spaghetti and meat sauce, but Sam doesn't like pasta so I just gave him the sauce) and the dog went bananas over it. Sam of course began to try to give her the meat sauce, so I removed the dog from the room and closed the glass door between the hallway and the kitchen.
Within seconds, I heard the dog scratching at the door (which she NEVER does) and turned around to see this:
I couldn't BELIEVE she was standing up on her hind legs - glaring at me to let her in! She NEVER does things like that. She looks so devilish in this picture with the crazy yellow eyes from the camera. Sam of course thought this was just absolutely hilarious, began cracking up, and throwing food towards the door. Wonderful.
Life is certainly never dull in the Geller-Cheney household!
